Masking Ceiling Before Painting

Q. I have purchased a top of the line airless spray gun. I've painted for a long time, but have just gotten started with this gun. I've primered a new construction home, and am ready to paint. My question is... What's the best way to mask off the ceilings? I've tried taping, and paper, but gravity is really working against me. I'm afraid I might be creating more work for myself. What's your suggestion?

A. Depending on the amount of overspray that your gun produces, you might not need to tape and paper there entire ceiling. If you were to mask off only a few feet from the walls, would you get overspray on the ceiling? Also, you might need to select a masking tape with a higher tack than the one you are currently using, but be careful not to pull (fresh) paint off the ceiling, otherwise you really will be causing yourself more work.

Best wishes,

Ron Joseph
