Designing a Powder Coating Spray Booth
Q. Presently I use a really cheap powder coat booth built by HotCoat. Now production
is ramping up and it can't keep up. I need to design an efficient running booth
that will do the job, but I don't know how to calculate for the filters, fan
and motor size etc... Can you help?
Thank you for your e-mail. I strongly suggest that you do not try to design
your own powder coating booth because there are too many factors that determine
the effectiveness of the booth. Therefore, I suggest that you bite the bullet
and purchase a booth from some of the leading powder booth manufacturers such
as Nordson (http://www.nordson.com) or ITW-Gema, (http://www.itwgema.com/) I'm
sure that there are other powder booth suppliers, but at least with these two
manufacturers you can be assured of a modern designed booth that you will be
able to use for many years to come.
For your information the powder coating show will be held in at the Charlotte
Convention Center, Charlotte, NC, from September 21 - 23, 2004. Refer to www.powdercoating.org
for details. If you are able to attend you will see a range of powder booths
and then understand why it is so worthwhile purchasing a properly designed booth
for your application. Moreover, if you are able to attend the show you will
also see a range of powder coating spray guns, powder coating materials and
a wide range of other ancillary equipment.
Best wishes,
Ron Joseph
