Paint for Graphics on Gymnasium Floors

Q. Is it true that our industry may use paints for graphics, etc on the gymnasium floors that do not meet the 350 VOC standard our sealers and finishes must meet? We are a gymnasium floor contractor in New York State.

A. I have never heard of this, although it is possible that the relevant regulation has a small quantity usage exemption. I don't have a copy of the regulations you are referring to and therefore cannot comment further. If you have a copy, look to see what exemptions are allowed. You might not see any reference to graphics on gymnasium floors since this is too specific, but you might see an exemption that applies to your scenario.

Regards,

Ron Joseph
