Chemfilm - Chromate Conversion Coating of Aluminum

Q. I want to powder coat the front half of an aluminum panel. I need electrical contact on the back side. I was planning to call out for the plate to be chem film and then powder coated. Is this acceptable? if not what corrosion inhibitor would you recommend for the back side?

A. I don't think you will have a problem using a chromate conversion coating, such as Chemfilm, Alodine, etc., at the back of the aluminum and still have an electrical ground. The Chemfilm is so very thin that it should not interfere with the contact. The best bet is to experiment and try it!

Best wishes,
