Training Painters

Q. I work for a company that paints chassis using Imron Elite and HVLP guns pressure pots ran through a plural component system. I have the task of training new employees with no prior knowledge of paint, and related equipment to work in a fast paced production environment. I usually give them 2 weeks in the prep area to get a sense of what is going on, and do hands on for the first week in the booth I feel that many times to start an employee like this they are often overwhelmed. What is the best way to develop an employee in this kind of environment?

A. We conduct onsite painter training specifically to accomplish what you are trying to do. Also, we have prepared a detailed workbook that goes along with the program. By the end of October we hope to have completed a CD that walks a painter step-by-step through the setting up of an HVLP spray gun. We start with a new gun as it comes out of a box and explain each step until the painter can actually set up the fluid and atomizing air pressures and obtain an acceptable paint fan.
