Health Hazards of Calcium Carbonate

Q. I would like to know the effects of calcium carbonate powder (fillers) on the health of persons working in a paints firm. I work as a senior manager with an SME in Lagos Nigeria and would like to know the effects as mentioned above, because my firm is about to add health insurance for our staff.

A. The best source of information for health hazards of any chemical can usually be found on a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). The following site will give you the information you are looking for, specifically on calcium carbonate. http://www.hummelcroton.com/. Moreover, if you enter "calcium carbonate MSDS" into a search engine, you will find several relevant sites.
