Safety & Health - Polyurethanes

Q. I will be refinishing a crib and I want to be sure that the polyurethane coating I use is safe after it is dry. Any suggestions on a brand? Or an other place where I can do further research?

A. Generally polyurethanes are safe after they have dried and cured. However, since you are interested in painting baby furniture I can understand why you want to be doubly sure. Some excellent websites for health & safety information on polyurethanes can be found at:

http://www.polyurethane.org/safe_handling/
http://www.isofacts.org/safety_handling.htm

Also, Bayer (the same company that used to make Bayer Aspirin) are leading suppliers of polyurethanes and they have extensive health and safety literature on polyurethanes.
