Bulk CARC Gas Blanket Recommendations

Q. I am doing a study regarding CARC paint and life expectancy and am having difificulty finding information on the right type of heavier than air gas blanket for 50 gallon drums. I have heard both nitrogen and argon, which one is preferable and how long should I expect the pot life to be?

A. The purpose for the blanket is to keep moisture from entering the 55-gallon drum. You can use any gas that is dry, such as nitrogen or argon. Most people use nitrogen presumably because it is readily available and less expensive. You can also use a desiccant to pass dry air into the head space of the drum.

Hope this helps.
