Painting Trailer End Dumps - Air Assisted Airless Spray Guns

Q. I blast and paint a lot of big trailers and use a 2 gal. pressure pot. I sometimes paint some 30' end dumps and it takes forever. I was wondering if I could use a air-assisted gun with the big jobs. Thanks for your help.

A. You certainly can use air assisted airless spray guns to paint the trailer end dumps; however if you are located in California you might not be able to do so on account of environmental regulations. If you are located in another state I expect that you will be allowed to use air-assisted airless, but before you do so please check with your local air pollution agency.

In terms of the quality of finish, air assisted airless can give you an acceptable finish, but you will need to train your painters to properly use the equipment. Please be aware of the potential safety hazards when using this type of spray equipment and I strongly urge you to thoroughly read the manufacturer's manual and then train your painters.

Best wishes,

Ron Joseph
