Painting in Marine Environment Using Epoxy Coating

Q. After how long should we repaint in marine environment with epoxy based paints? and after how long should we remove the paint completely and reapply?

A. The recommendation for repainting is determined by the integrity of the current coatings system. If the current system is showing signs of wear, excessive pin holing, rust, or flaking, then refinishing is recommended.

The need to completely remove any existing paint system is generally determined by the amount of paint that is on the surface currently. In other words one would not want to have an excessive paint film build up.

It should only be necessary to repaint if the coatings are starting to fail, or if corrosion is starting to show.
