Paint Manufacturing

Q. I just bought a small scale paint industry in Eritrea, E. Africa. I am a Polymer and Plastics engineer and my knowledge of paint manufacturing is really low. I need to learn how to improve the quality of the house decorative paints that we are manufacturing now. Would you please tell me which books I need to buy that would teach from the start of the raw materials, the mixing etc. At the moment we are importing our raw material semi mixed such as the resins etc.

A. The Federation of Societies for Coating Technology has several outstanding monographs and books on subjects concerning paint and coating technologies. These include resins, solvents, pigments, extender pigments, rheology, film forming mechanisms, painting of plastics, paint making and much more. All of these can be purchased from the Federation's Book Store. I urge you to browse their website and select the topics that most apply to your needs.

Another excellent book is the European Coatings Handbook, Edited by Ulrich Zorll, Publisher Curt R. Vincentz, Verlag, Hanover, Germany dated 2000. This is definitely a text book for those who are serious about paint technology. You can order the book at:
