MIL-PRF-22750

Q: We need to paint our products (for a military customer) with two coats of Epoxy polyamide paint, mil-prf-22750. What we are not sure is of what primer to use and the surface preparation needed. The base material is black hard anodized (per Mil-A-8625 Type 3 Class 2) Mic 6 Aluminum. We got suggestions from paint vendors to use mil-prf-23377 primer. But would sure appreciate an expert's advise.

A: MIL-PRF-23377 is definitely a suitable primer under MIL-PRF-22750, however, I would be cautious about applying it or any other primer over black hard anodizing. I suggest that you perform adhesion tests before going forward.

Ron Joseph
