State/Regional Regulations

Under the Clean Air Act, EPA has the authority to set national standards for protecting public health and the environment from pollutants in the outside air. State governments manage most of the specific programs for achieving these standards. Some states have delegated responsibility for air quality to regional or local agencies such as "air quality districts."

Use the locator below to read a summary of individual state requirements regarding hazardous air pollutants and general features about each state's permitting requirements. Please keep in mind that many states are in the process of revising their state regulations; moreover, some of the larger states have regulations that vary slightly by region. Therefore, it is recommended that you contact your state agency to discuss specific regulations that may affect your coating operation.
